Local DJ Russ Winstanley and Wigan Casino manager Mike Walker approached lease owner Gerry Marshall to run all-nighters. Walker brought Winstanley, who had a DJ set at the local rugby club, to the Casino Club. The Casino Club, or the "Emp", (an abbreviation for The Empress Hall, the Casino's original name) was built around the time of the First World War, and was perfect for an allnighter. A massive maple sprung dancefloor dominated the building, and a large stage was situated at one end. Time for another Casino tape and this one is a very rare one. This tape is from October 1973, the earliest Wigan tape in existence as far as I know, just a month into the Casino's lifespan. The playlist is pretty much as to be expected, mainly comprising records from The Cats, The Torch and places like Va Va's. Much of the tape was cut to pieces where the original taper started recording then This final Wigan Casino song became one of the most famous northern soul songs of all time, Frank Wilson's "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)".Template:Citation needed Annual reunions are held in Wigan hosted by the original DJs. Not being around until the mid 80s I never got the chance to go to wigan casino. But Im a massive music fan and I love all this stuff.
